Ambulance for Two is an audio-physical performance by the Monster Hurricane Wihajster duo, i.e. Hubert and Monika Wińczyk. It unfolds as a sequence of events that emerge during physical and mental accidents, social and spiritual collapses – a series of snapshots shaped by experiences of closeness and distance, motion and stillness, improvisation, surprise, and precise planning. It is a study of breath and breathlessness, which can either block or release the consequences of a real or imagined accident.
An important element shaping the character of the performance is the confrontation with unexpected impulses of various origins, and the discomfort and inevitability of finding oneself in a particular, often difficult, position. In these moments of difficulty, we instinctively turn to language, seeking help from it – grasping at it as a tool for repair –but it fails us. Words run dry, meanings dissolve, and the most honest thing left is the voice itself, which we eventually stop trying to understand.
