Jerzy Kosałka
A multimedia artist, born in 1955 in Będzin. In 1981, he graduated with a degree in painting from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Where he later worked as an assistant in Professor Zbigniew Karpiński’s studio from 1983 to 1987. While working at the university, he joined the editorial team of the student-published psychoactive magazine “Luxus.” After forming the group Legendary Luxus, he participated in most of its artistic activities. In 1995, he debuted as an individual artist with the exhibition “Modestly, Without Luxury” at the Wrocław City Gallery. He has taken part in numerous group projects since then.
In his artistic work, Kosałka uses various technologies and media. Kosałka paints, builds objects and models, creates installations, intervenes in public spaces, and engages in performance art. His work has been discussed in the monograph “Who Wants May Believe, Kosałka Jerzy” published in 2021 by the Wrocław Center for Culture and Art. That same year, he launched his own exhibition project in Wrocław, “Galeria u Kosałki”.
